Visit Papagayo at the San Diego Zoo
September 8th, 2006
If you’re visiting the San Diego Zoo with your little ones, visiting the Children’s Zoo is a must.
There, you’ll find a variety of creatures to peak your little ones’ interest, including a red panda; a sea otter; naked mole rats and some really cool bugs (stick around for the show if you want to get up close and personal with some of the insects!).
There are a number of macaws perched throughout the Children’s Zoo, including a majestic scarlet macaw named Papagayo. You will find “Poppy” sitting near the entrance to the Children’s Zoo - over the bridge (keep an eye out for the “alliagtor” in the water) and the hyacinth macaw, past the pygmy marmoset and over to the right.
She is a fairly social bird and is known to be quite chatty. Stop and say “Hello Papagayo” and be prepared to see the look of awe on your child’s face when she answers back!
