The Perfect Gaslamp Quarter Parking Spot

September 21st, 2006

In the heart of San Diego’s Downtown area lies the Gaslamp Quarter. Roughly 8 blocks long (from Broadway to Harbor) and 2 blocks wide (from Fourth to Sixth Avenue), it is home to several of San Diego’s most popular bars, restaurants and nightclubs. Petco Park and the San Diego Convention Center lie at the foot of the Gaslamp Quarter, while Horton Plaza sits adjacent to it.

Unfortunately, the hustle and bustle of a vibrant downtown core brings with it the inevitable headache or finding the perfect parking spot. Several parking options are available, including metered street parking, office buildings and makeshift lots. You can even print out a map if you want – a sort of cheat sheet to finding parking in and around the Gaslamp Quarter.

Save up to 50% almost everywhere!

But to be crowned the perfect parking spot, your spot must meet three basic criteria: it must be safe; it must be close to your destination; and above all, it must be cheap.

We have found the perfect short-term parking spot in the Gaslamp Quarter. The parking is plentiful, it’s monitored by a Security patrol, it’s next to the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter and best of all, it’s practically free! This secret parking sanctuary is Horton Plaza.

Horton Plaza’s parking garage is open 24 hours a day, every day. The first three hours of parking is free with any purchase in the shopping center (the first four hours are free if you validate through United Artists Theatre, Lyceum Theatre, Panda Inn, Napa Valley Grille or Samba Grill). After that, the rate is $6.00 per hour. The street entrance to the parking structure is located on Fourth Avenue at F Street.

The “any purchase” loophole is what makes this spot such a great deal. “Any purchase” includes a cup of coffee at Starbucks, a truffle from Godiva Chocolatier, or even a lip gloss from the Body Shop. A few dollars later, you’re sitting pretty in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter, full of pride for having found the perfect parking spot.
