Finding Parking in San Diego’s Balboa Park
October 1st, 2006
Balboa Park has a little something for everyone. There’s the Zoo for animal lovers, the Old Globe for theatre-goers, an IMAX screen for movie buffs, organ concerts (on one of the world’s largest outdoor organs) for music lovers, botanical gardens and landscaping galore for the green thumbs, puppet shows for children and the renowned Prado Restaurant for foodies; not to mention an abundance of museums to fit every mood, a vintage carousel, picturesque architecture and an Artisan Village.
But what you can’t always find in Balboa Park is…parking.
Parking is free in Balboa Park in the various lots located throughout the Park. Limited street parking is also permitted. You can also take advantage of the valet parking, which is offered in the evenings for a fee.
Balboa Park also offers a complimentary tram service seven days a week. The tram makes several stops around the Park, including many of the parking lots and runs roughly every 10 minutes from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm, with extended hours during the summer. The drivers are friendly and informative and taking the tram can double as a mini-tour of Balboa Park, giving you a sense for all that the Park has to offer.
If you can’t find parking in the lot closest to where you’re headed in Balboa Park, consider taking the tram into the heart of the Park – it may take some additional time, but the scenic tour around Balboa Park makes it worth it.
Before you go: check out this map of Balboa Park, which includes locations of parking lots and tram stops.
