Thinking of trying out for America’s hottest vocal talent show? Wondering what to expect on Audition Day? Part II of our two-part post about the American Idol Season 7 Auditions will highlight some of the details about the auditioning process.
The most up-to-date and accurate information about the American Idol Season 7 Auditions can be found on the official American Idol website. We highly recommend that you consult that website to educate yourself on the official contest rules and expectations.
Here are a few things you should know about auditioning for American Idol:
Have You Registered to Audition?: To audition for American Idol, you must first register. When you register, you will be given a wristband and a seat ticket. Only those who have registered to audition (and have a wristband and seat ticket) will be given the opportunity to audition. You may try register on Audition Day, but there is no guarantee that any spots will be available if you leave it to the last minute. You are better off registering during the registration period, which begins two days prior to Audition Day. For more information about registering to audition for American Idol, check out our post: San Diego : American Idol Auditions – Part I: Registration.
Audition Day: Audition Day is Monday July, 30, 2007. Auditions will take place at San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium, located at 9449 Friars Road, San Diego, CA 92108. You should plan to be in line by the earliest time allowed by the venue (most likely 5:00 am for Qualcomm) and you must be in line by 8:00 am at the latest on Audition Day.
What to Bring to the Audition: You must bring your wristband, seat ticket, and the two forms of ID that you used to register, along with proof of citizenship and/or permanent US residency. You should also print out and sign the Audition Release Form (also downloadable from the American Idol website) and bring it with you to the audition. If you are under 18 your parent or legal guardian must sign the Audition Release Form.
Who to Bring to the Audition: You are allowed to bring one person to the audition. On Audition Day, your “accompanying guest” will also have to show his/her wristband, seat ticket and ID. If you are under 18 years of age, your “accompanying guest” MUST be your parent or legal guardian and that person must be with you at all times while you are at the audition.
What to Wear to the Audition: Do not wear any clothing items that reveal any tattoos, that have designer names, sports teams, or any other logos or brand names, or bearing the likeness of any celebrity, living or dead. If you do wear such clothing, you may be required to remove it or cover it up.
Waiting in Line – Dos and Don’ts: DON’T bring alcohol, drugs, weapons, tents, cans or glass bottles, animals, large coolers or large folding chairs. DON’T cut in line: you will be disqualified. Also, you may not hold a place in line for another person for an extended period of time. DO be courteous. DO bring (as appropriate) banners, blankets, bottled water, cell phones and cameras (no camcorders), a mini-cooler, or a compact folding camp chair (the ones that fit in a bag).
Getting to Audition: Bear in mind that even if you are in line by 8:00 am on Audition Day, there is no guarantee that you will be seen for an audition. The Producer reserves the right to audition people out of order of their place in line, and may walk around the venue to pick out people to audition (regardless of their place in line) based on performing ability, look, style, personality and other factors, at the Producer’s sole discretion. So keep your energy level up and your game face on at all times – you never know who might be “auditioning” you while you’re standing in line!
What to Sing: For the first round of auditions, you must be prepared to sing an a capella (without music) song of your choice. If you are called back for the second round of auditions, you may be asked to sing two additional songs (also a capella), one of your own choosing and one chosen from a list given to you by the Producer.
What Happens Next?: If you pass through the first and second rounds of auditions, you will be invited back for a subsequent round of auditions. Every successful audition brings you one step closer to the ultimate prize the title of American Idol!
Break a leg, San Diego!
