June, 29, 2009: San Diego County Fair Offers Free Admission to Unemployed and State of California Workers
The San Diego County Fair, in an effort to provide an entertainment option to people who might need it most, is offering free admission on Monday, June 29, 2009 to people who have been laid off from their jobs, as well as to State of California workers currently on the state-mandated furlough program. By presenting certain documentation (see below), laid-off or State workers can receive two free admissions (Adult, Child or Senior) to the San Diego County Fair on June 29, 2009 only.
“We feel this Fair Stimulus Promotion would be a good way for people to come and enjoy everything the Fair has to offer,” said Fair General Manager Tim Fennell. “That evening’s grandstand show, Clint Black, is free with admission, other entertainment is free, and the exhibits are free. People can bring their lunch and store it at Guest Services. They can park for free at Horsepark and have an entire day at the Fair for no cost.”
Who’s Eligible for Two Free Fair Admissions?
The Fair Stimulus Promotion Free Admission Offer is extended to those who are currently receiving unemployment benefits from the State of California, those whose benefits ran out within the last month, those who have applied for unemployment and have an award notice, active State of California employees who are on the state-mandated furlough program, and laid-off workers from Mexico.
What to Bring to Prove Eligibility for Free Fair Admission?
Those receiving California unemployment benefits need to bring the stub from the weekly claim form, and a photo ID. Your stub will be marked once you present it for the two free admissions. If you have been approved for unemployment benefits, but have not received a check yet, bring your award notice. Those who work for the State of California need to bring a state-issued employee ID, or a State of California paycheck stub. Laid-off workers from Mexico must bring a certification of unemployment (”Certificacion de Baja”) from the IMSS, Mexico’s Social Security Administration, and a photo ID.
Please note that the costs for on-site parking, rides and games, food or products being sold at the Fair is an additional cost. However, you can park for free at our off-site Horsepark facility, east of I-5 on Via de la Valle, then ride a free shuttle to the Fair’s O’Brien Gate; and you can bring your lunch and store it at Guest Services while you enjoy the Fair (no sharp utensils or unsealed beverages). All entertainment and exhibits for Monday, June 29, 2009 are free with Fair admission, including the evening Grandstand performance by country star Clint Black.
