May 26, 2012 – January 1, 2013 – The Science Center’s Most Popular Exhibit is Back!
Is the statement “Ewww, that’s GROSS!” a compliment or an insult? At the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center, it’s a whopping compliment!
The Science Center’s most popular exhibit ever, Grossology: The (Impolite) Science of the Human Body, is back to disgust, enthrall and educate!
The philosophy of Grossology is “science in disguise” – teach children in their own words, through creative exhibits that are appealing and interesting to children. This 2,500 square foot exhibit, based on the best-selling book Grossology, uses sophisticated animatronics and imaginative exhibits to teach visitors about the good, the bad and the downright ugly about bodily functions: learn about the process of vomiting at the Vomit Center; the physics of gas at the Toot Toot exhibit; the build up of acid indigestion and the resulting giant belch from the Burp Machine; take a “Tour du Nose” to explore nasal features, including how your snoot acts as an air filter, a smell sensor and a mucus producer; climb a large scale replica of human skin; and explore the role of the kidney in Urine: The Game and discover other mysterious ways your body’s biology does what it needs to do to keep you healthy.
Grossology: The (Impolite) Science of the Human Body will be on display at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center in Balboa Park from May 26, 2012 to January 1, 2013. Admittance to the exhibit is free with paid admission to the Science Center.
