Sunday, September 9, 2012 – Explore the Science Center with Free Admission for Grandparents AND Grandkids
On Sunday, September 9, 2012, grandparents and their grandkids are invited to celebrate National Grandparents Day at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center with a day of hands-on fun with free admission to the Science Center’s exhibit galleries.
And with eight interactive, “do touch” exhibits, there is plenty of fun to be had by visitors of all ages at the Science Center!
The most popular exhibit ever, Grossology: The (Impolite) Science of the Human Body! lets families explore why they produce mushy, oozy, crusty, scaly and stinky gunk. Based on the best-selling book, this exhibition uses sophisticated animatronics and imaginative exhibits to tell you the good, the bad and the downright ugly about runny noses, body odor and much more. Take a “Tour du Nose,” make the “Burp Machine” release a giant belch, explore the role of the kidney in “Urine: The Game” or climb a large-scale replica of human skin – and discover the mysterious ways your body’s biology does what it needs to do to keep you healthy.
The Main Gallery will be buzzing as grandparents share the opportunity to explore mechanics, motion, math, hearing, electricity and many other interconnected areas of science. Explor-O-Rama – Get Your Hands On Science features all-time favorites and never-before-seen interactive exhibits from San Francisco’s Exploratorium. Look for new challenges with the Bicycle Wheel Gyro, Strobe Flower and Magnetic Wave Machine; and enjoy the return of popular favorites the Whisper Dishes, Rope Squirter, and Pedal Generator!
Of course every grandparent loves “Kid City,” where the “under-five” set can explore on their own, and grandparents can sit and watch them burn off all that energy! This is a very special exhibition where preschool age visitors create, work, play and learn as they experience the wonders of the everyday working world. The “fire truck” interactive is a favorite among young visitors.
Other ongoing exhibits include the Tinkering Studio, Cellular Journey, Block Busters!, So WATT! An Illuminating Look at Energy, San Diego’s Water: From Source to Tap, Aging for All Ages, Origins in Space and the Gallery of Illusions & Perceptions.
The Reuben H. Fleet Science Center is located at 1875 El Prado, two blocks south of the San Diego Zoo on Park Boulevard. The free admission offer is extended to grandparents and their grandchildren and is valid on Sunday, September 9, 2012 only. The Science Center will be open from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on Sunday, September 9, 2012. Visitors can pick up their Grandparents Day free exhibit gallery pass at the ticket counter upon arrival. Free parking is available adjacent to the museum and along Park Boulevard.
Happy Grandparents Day!
