Science on the Rocks at the Reuben H. Fleet Science CenterThe folks at the Science Center have discovered the scientific formula for a perfect night out: Take one part fun with friends and slowly mix in two parts intriguing interaction. Then add a scoop of nibbles and a cup of libations. Cover all ingredients with music and laughter. Let it simmer to perfection. And voila! You have Science on the Rocks – a delightful evening of unexpected activities, delicious tastes, and indulgent experiences for adults ages 21 and older.

Science on the Rocks sold out October’s The Sweet Science of Chocolate well in advance! A truly decadent time was had by all, and an encore is in store when Tap This: The Art of the Brew explores the scientific alchemy of San Diego’s local brewniverse at the Fleet on Thursday, January 24, 2013, at 6:30 pm.

Admission provides exclusive access to tasty temptations, sips of suds, engaging entertainment and inspired interaction. Hop into the experience and enjoy sweet and savory samples from local restaurants, sip suds from a bevy of San Diego breweries and master beer-centric science challenges.

Bites & Brews will allow guests to savor complimentary samples from standout local restaurants, including Stone Catering, West Coast Tavern, Brazen BBQ, D Bar, Slater’s 50/50 and Neighborhood. Thirsts will be quenched by imbibing a bevy of local beers; choose from samples by Stone Brewing Co., Hillcrest Brewing Company, Green Flash Brewing Co., Helm’s Brewing Co., Mad Lab Craft Brewing and Monkey Paw Brewing Company. Tasting tokens are included with your ticket. Or pick your own pleasure and hit the no-host full bar from BarWorks, offering beer, wine, and cocktails.

In order to better Mix & Mingle, Fleet facilitators and scientific experts will assist attendees in various alchemical activities! You can discover the Physics of Beer Pong; compete in the Beer Goggle Challenge; or make Carb-Garb by designing your own tasty, twisted Pretzel Necklace. There will also be a chance to get the up close and personal 411 on beer with Chat Craft, as you converse with our local brewing experts.

All proceeds benefit the Fleet’s nonprofit mission of furthering the public understanding and enjoyment of science and technology. Tickets are $20.00 for non-members; $18.00 for students and military; and $15.00 for Fleet members, staff and volunteers, and Balboa Park employees. Beer Boss Upgrade: $15.00 more gets you a glass beer mug with custom engraving. Pick up your mug and have your name engraved at the party.
