Wild Animal Park : Seven New Lion Cubs!

Wild Animal Park Lion and Cubs

The seven new lion cubs (two litters, born a few days apart in November 2007 to proud moms Mina and Oshana) are now out on exhibit at the Wild Animal Park’s Lion Camp. In fact, having been successfully introduced to Father Izu, the entire brood is out on display!

Wild Animal Park Lion and Cubs

And what a lively bunch they are! The young cubs enjoy climbing the trees and rock, tumbling in the grass, sunning themselves on the Land Rover and keeping an eye on the giraffes, rhinos and antelope visible from Lion Camp.

But most of all, they enjoy playing with one another, pouncing on their mothers and taking playful swats at their father’s magnificent mane!

Wild Animal Park Lion and Cubs

The lion cubs are out in the exhibit area daily, first thing in the morning. They remain out until the young cubs tire, at which point they are brought inside and older brothers Kamau and Zenda are sent out to enjoy some exhibit time.

Free Admission to San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park

Firefighters and other first responders who helped San Diego during the recent wildfires are invited to enjoy free admission to the San Diego Zoo and the Wild Animal Park through the months of December and January. This special admission is being offered as a way of saying “Thank You” to all those people who worked heroically to control and extinguish the fires and support fire victims.

The October 2007 wildfires had a catastrophic effect on many neighborhoods and businesses, including the San Diego Zoo’s Wild Animal Park, which lost more than 600 acres and two structures to the fire. “The Wild Animal Park has been threatened by wildfire three times in its history,” said Bob McClure, director of the Wild Animal Park. “This fire was the most challenging event we have faced so far. We cannot begin to express our thanks for the help we received during this time.”

The Zoological Society of San Diego is offering complimentary general admission to the first responder and up to three immediate family members; this includes firefighters, law enforcement and emergency medical officials, 911 dispatchers, Cal Fire, California Department of Forestry and U.S. Forest Department personnel who battled the recent Southern California wildfires. To avail themselves of the special offer, qualified firefighters and other emergency response workers may present current photo identification and credentials demonstrating proof of employment at the guest relations booths for the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Zoo’s Wild Animal Park. Each first responder will receive one single-day complimentary general admission for themselves and up to three immediate family members (parking fees at the Wild Animal Park are not included in the special offer). In addition, first responders also will receive a 20-percent discount for single-day tickets for up to 6 additional guests.

The free admission offer runs through January 31, 2008.

Thank you!
