Free Admission to Sea Life Aquarium : Underwater Parks Day 2010

January 16, 2010 – TWO Free Child Admissions with Paid Adult (with Coupon)

Sea Life Aquarium celebrates the second annual Underwater Parks Day on Saturday, January 16, 2010, with kid-friendly activities designed to raise awareness of soon-to-be designated “underwater parks” or Marine Protected Areas. In celebration of Underwater Parks Day, Sea Life Aquarium has organized a family-friendly festival and is also offering an online coupon for free admission for two children with each paid adult.

Two Free Child Admissions Offer

In honor of Underwater Parks Day, guests will receive TWO free child admissions to Sea Life Aquarium with the purchase of one adult admission. The 3-for-1 Admission Deal is valid on Saturday, January 16, 2010.

To take advantage of this special 3-for-1 Admission Offer, PRINT THIS UNDERWATER PARKS DAY AT SEA LIFE AQUARIUM COUPON and present it at the Sea Life Aquarium/Legoland Resort ticket booth when purchasing your full price Adult Admission. To receive the two free Child Admissions, you must purchase your full price Adult Admission in person at the ticket booth. An original coupon must be exchanged at the ticket booth at the time of ticket purchase. Only two complimentary child admissions will be issued per coupon. The two free Child Admissions offer is valid on Saturday, January 16, 2010 only and is valid only on the day of purchase. The free admission offer cannot be applied to pre-purchased tickets, online ticket sales, or combined with any other offers. Free admission does not include parking or admission to Legoland California. Additional restrictions may apply. Children under 2 are admitted free.

Underwater Parks Day Activities

LEGO Guests who attend the Underwater Parks Day celebration will enjoy a day full of family friendly activities that are specifically geared to families with young children. Guests will have a chance to create a personalized take-home habitat, add to the Happy Habitat Mural and visit a mini Conservation Expo with hands-on exhibits to learn how their family can get involved in caring for our ocean locally.

Underwater Parks Day is an effort by Southern California aquariums and marine science centers to educate Southern Californians about Underwater Parks and to communicate that marine protected areas are a critical tool in replenishing the fish populations and restoring the health of our coastal waters.

Local ocean conservation organizations including Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation, Coastkeeper, I Love A Clean San Diego, Ocean Discovery Institute, San Diego Oceans Foundation and San Elijo State Beach will be taking part in the Underwater Parks Day event at Sea Life Aquarium, hosting information booths and other activities for families throughout the day.

Renowned local artist Teresa Espaniola, who is known for painting seascapes as well as for her unique works using found objects and beach trash, will be leading the Happy Habitat Mural project. With Espanola’s help, children will add their own sea creatures to a large ocean mural in the Discovery Zone, demonstrating what a healthy, happy underwater habitat should look like.

Espaniola was born in California. Since childhood, she has enjoyed crafting, painting and exhibiting her work in art shows. The ocean has always been a love in her life, from tide pooling in California to living in Hawaii, immersing herself in surfing and diving and meeting many ocean dwellers face to face. Having experienced the best of the ocean, she now brings awareness about the worst of it through her art and working with children. Nine of Espanola’s “gARTbage” works, using local beach trash to create beautiful art, will be on display during the event.

Other Aquariums hosting Underwater Parks Day events include Cabrillo Marine Aquarium in San Pedro, Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, Ocean Institute in Dana Point, Birch Aquarium at Scripps in La Jolla, Santa Monica Pier Aquarium and Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History’s Ty Warner Sea Center, but Sea Life is the only one whose activities are focused on families with young children.

Underwater Parks Day at Sea Life Aquarium takes place from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday, January 16, 2010. All activities are included in the cost of Aquarium admission.

Sea Life Aquarium at Legoland Resort is located in San Diego North, steps away from Legoland California (it shares the same parking lot) at One Legoland Drive, Carlsbad, CA, 92008.

Sea Life Aquarium Celebrates Earth Month 2009

Turn Trash Into Treasure at Sea Life Aquarium

Sea Life Aquarium at Legoland California Resort

Sea Life Aquarium at Legoland California Resort celebrates Earth Month by offering fun, family friendly craft activities with an environmental message – turning trash into treasure – every Saturday in April.

Get ready to Go Green with the following Earth-friendly crafts at Sea Life Aquarium:

April 4, 2009 – Recycled Shadow Puppets

Every child has made shadow puppets with their hands, but Sea Life will show you how to use recycled paper to make shadow puppets that you can use over and over again. Best of all, you will get to demonstrate your puppets along with all of the other children and learn how to make your own “theater” at home using a cereal box.

April 11, 2009 – Mosaic Marine Animals

Work with Sea Life educators to create fun marine animal mosaics made of paper that could have otherwise ended up as trash in the ocean.

April 18, 2009 – Be an Ocean Super Hero

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no, it’s a Sea Life Super Hero! This fun craft project transforms recycled paper into colorful masks and reminds kids that by helping to save the planet, they are super heroes to the ocean!

April 25, 2009 – April Showers Bring May Flowers

Anemones are the “flowers” of the ocean and in this fun craft you will learn to make a beautiful anemone from recycled toilet paper rolls while learning how to be a “greener” gardener.

Every craft participant will receive a “grow-a-note” book mark full of simple tips for being green. After re-using the bookmark time and time again, it can be planted and watered and wildflowers will bloom!

All craft activities take place in Sea Life Aquarium’s Southern California Tide Pool exhibit between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm and are free with paid admission.
